Well...there is always lots to catch up on. It is a shame really, I wish I had had better Internet access when I was away so I could post these pictures at the time; then I am usually caught up in the excitement more and I can remember specific details with it all being fresh and in the moment. Even though I want to share things, later it feels almost like a bit of a chore because there are still other things that concern today and this present moment that I'd like to write about.
I don't really like backlogs...
...a giant backlog actually made me quit writing my diary which I had kept from the age of twelve until eighteen. I missed about 5-6 days due to travelling back from Peru and the excitement of returning from my gap year and when I finally had the chance to sit down and write it all down, the task just seemed overwhelming and I simply stopped.
Anyway...I digress. This post is more of a photo post so you can get a feel for our little trip to Norfolk.
I think I was meant to come here. My mum has been harking on for years about wanting to go after she'd watched Stephen Fry in the TV series Kingdom. It was her dream to walk along Holkham beach (ideally with a Jack Russell but...well you can't easily rent one for the day!).
I suggested we go after she picked me up from Summer School also because I wanted to catch an old friend and meet her fiance before their wedding in November. It turned out I also had to be here in the end for a training day, and two of my work colleagues from Spain also live here over the summer with their families so it was a chance to catch up.
We stayed in a lovely little air bnb - see the gorgeous attic room above - which I cannot recommend enough for its lovely hostess and it was the perfect location.
The above photo was from Wells-on-Sea which we drove out to one day from Norwich which is very close to Holkham. We planned to go to Holkham straight after but the heavens opened so we decided to return the next day in the end.
This is a little photo of the bar at The Playhouse in Norwich - the local theatre. It is so quirky and cool that I had to take some snaps. The best part is the upside down model city on the ceiling!!
And this is The Victoria - a restaurant/inn next to Holkham where you can have a lovely lunch and take shelter from the rain -as we did. It has wifi too!
And of course photos of Holkham beach...it is pretty vast!
The mothership living the dream (sans Jack Russell)....
And then scones at Holkham Hall because...well...no British holiday would be complete without a cream tea now would it?
And the silliest thing?
We explored the back of Holkham Hall's grounds...and totally overlooked the fact that there is of course a front...
with a maze garden and an impressive frontier...but we missed it! Dear oh dear! Oh and there were deer too, which we didn't miss luckily!
So there you have it -a few pictures and words. I hope I get more time to write before I head off to Italy but I'm pretty darn busy this week getting myself organised and helping my mum with car boots. It is fairly early but I am already exhausted. Anyway, until next time xxx
